The federal pre-selection contest for the safe Liberal Victorian seat of Kooyong, currently held by the outspoken backbencher Petro Georgiou will be held in Melbourne today.
Mr Georgiou has been criticised by more conservative members of his party for his views on immigration policy and the detention of asylum seekers.
85 Liberal Party delegates will decide between Mr Georgiou and challenger Joshua Frydenberg.
Mr Georgiou is a former director of the state Liberal party and a one-time advisor to the former Liberal Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser.
Mr Frydenberg is a former Howard Government staffer who has the support of the Foreign Minister Alexander Downer in the pre-selection contest.
