The residents of Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory have been allowed out of public shelters to return to their homes, with the worst of Cyclone Monica having passed over coastal communities.
No injuries or major damage have been reported.
The cyclone is now expected to weaken to category three by the time it reaches Darwin on Tuesday afternoon.
