The Ethnic Communities Council of NSW says Australia should give temporary protection visas to ethnic Chinese in the strife-torn Solomon Islands.
The council's Justin Li says many have been displaced by rioting over the past week and need temporary refuge with the situation remaining volatile.
Mr Li says many have nothing left in the Solomons or in their Chinese homeland.
"The ethnic Chinese people make up a small proportion of the Solomon Islands population," he said.
"We've already supplied troops there to keep law and order, and we've also provided other financial aid.
"We think we should go all the way and also provide this humanitarian aid to these people who've literally lost everything. "
