The Socceroos will disappear from television screens next year, unless fans are prepared to pay to watch their heroes.

Football Federation Australia is expected to confirm a seven year deal worth $120 million with Foxtel later today.

It will give the pay TV network exclusive rights to all Australia's international matches, as well as the A-League and Asian Champions League games involving Australian clubs.

The editor of Soccer International magazine, John Iannantuono, says the money will help grow the domestic game, but he still expects a backlash from angry supporters.

"Perhaps they could've negotiated a better deal where more Australian football could've been broadcast on free to air networks."

He said; "Pay television isn't really accessed by the majority of the population. There's no doubt it will have its benefits but it will have its negatives as well and hopefully those negatives aren't too severe."
