A consumer group is calling on the Federal Government to use the revenue from the sale of Medibank Private to support preventative health care.
The Australian Consumers' Association says the planned sale will give the Government the chance to inject some badly needed funds into the health system.
The health minister, Tony Abbott, and the finance minister, Nick Minchin, announced the sale of Australia's largest health fund yesterday.
Mr Abbott says there are no guarantees premiums will remain low or fall but the sale is in the best interest of consumers.
