The victims of the Port Arthur massacre will be remembered today, on the tenth anniversary of Australia's worst ever mass killing.
The Prime Minister, John Howard, will head the list of dignitaries joining mourners for a ceremony at the scene of the massacre in south-east Tasmania.
35 people died on April the 28th, 1996 when Martin Bryant from Hobart went on a shooting spree.
He is serving a life prison sentence without parole.
Mr Howard says the memorial service is vital to help people cope with their continuing grief.
But the ceremony is intended to be the last public acknowledgment of the massacre.
