Greens leader Bob Brown has called for Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone to be sacked for likening the Papuan separatism movement to racism.
Senator Vanstone says moves for Papuan nationalism are based on hostility toward people from other parts of Indonesia.
Senator Brown says the comments in the Weekend Australian are a major mistake and an unforgivable offence.
The Greens leader says the comments also insult other groups including Kurds, Taiwanese and East Timorese who have fought for independence.
“Senator Vanstone should stand down she has given every indication she is a failure as a Minister and particularly as a minister who has enormous powers over the right of refugees in this country.” Senator Brown said
