The Defence Minister, Brendan Nelson says an inquiry into the death of Private Jake Kovco will also investigate why the wrong body was brought back to Australia this week.
Family and members of Private Kovco's regiment, the third Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment were at Sydney airport as his body was brought back to Australia.
Shelley, Martin and Judy Kovco formally identified private Kovco's body at Glebe morgue this morning following the official military reception at Sydney Airport.
Dr Nelson says a senior army officer and medical specialist will fly to Kuwait tomorrow to join a full board of inquiry into the death and why the wrong body was sent home.
“They will travel to Kuwait tomorrow evening and conduct an investigation particularly surrounding the circumstances in the civilian mortuary and the transfer of private Kovco's body from the Australian C-130 Hercules through the US military mortuary to the private mortuary in Kuwait.” Dr Nelson said.
