The chartered plane carrying the remains of Private Jake Kovco has landed at Sydney airport.
The plane landed shortly before Sydney's 7.30am local time carrying the remains of the first Australian soldier killed in Iraq eight days ago.
A group of officers from Private Kovco's regiment, the third Battalion Royal Australian Regiment at Holsworthy have gathered to greet the casket.
The chief of the defence force, the head of the army, Defence Minister Brendan Nelson and opposition defence spokesman Robert Mcclelland are also there.
Private Kovco's widow Shelley and other members of his family will have a moment with the casket after it's taken from the aircraft before it's taken to Glebe Morgue.
