Supporters of Indonesia's western province Papua are calling on Australia to help them seek independency.
The group has raised the West Papuan flag at the Indonesian consulate in Sydney's southern suburb Maroubra today.
A spokesman for the Australia West Papua Association Weng Kandam says today they are mourning 40 years of Indonesia's violent dominance.
On 1 May 1963 the United Nations temporary authority in Papua withdrew, leaving the territory under the de facto control of Indonesia.
Papuan Mr Kandam says the Indonesian forces in the country are committing a genocide, and since 1963 thirty per cent of Papuans had to migrate to other countries.
Mr Kandam says his people feel forgotten by the United Nations and has called on Australia to help them.
"In West Papua, we suffer a lot because we came under an international cospiracy supported by Indonesia, the U-S and the U-N," he says.
"If Australia wish, they can investigate what happened since 1963 and then take the issue to the U-N, because Australia is our neighbour".
