The Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and the head of the Australian Defence Force will join mourners for the funeral of Private Jake Kovco this morning.
The service for Australia's first military casualty in Iraq is due to start at 11 a.m. in Private Kovco's home town of Briagolong, Victoria.
His casket, covered with an Australian flag, will be transported on a gun carriage, and Private Kovco will be buried with full military honours at Sale Cemetery.
The circumstances of his death are still being investigated, but the New South Wales coroner has released the body.
Investigators confirmed yesterday that Private Kovco died of a gunshot to the head.
