Former Victorian Premier, Jeff Kennett, is considering a come-back in the state election in November.

Mr Kennett, who was Premier from 1992 to 1999, has been mentioned as a possible replacement as state Liberal Party leader, following the resignation Thursday of Robert Doyle.

Liberal Party MPs are due to meet on Monday to choose a replacement for Mr Doyle.

Mr Kennett, who promised to have nothing further to do with politics when he resigned from parliament in 1999, says he has not yet decided whether to seek re-election as an MP, and then as Liberal leader.

"I will, however, use the next 48 hours to consult with my existing and former colleagues, with those whose advice I think highly of, and obviously my family. I do not want the speculation to continue unnecessarily."
