Prominent members of the Australian Muslim community have expressed disappointment at recent comments about Islam by Australia's Cardinal George Pell.

Cardinal Pell says he has read the Koran and it is full of what he describes as invocations to violence, and says Islam has a limited capacity for change.

The Islamic Council of Victoria says it assumes Cardinal PELL did not mean to offend, but his comments are not helpful.

And an outgoing executive member of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Ikebal Patel, says he is offended.

"One of the things that is necessary at this time is for all leaders, political as well as religious leaders use wisdom to be inclusive, rather then bring in devisive thoughts, which do not help with religious harmony in Australia."
