The government of Timor Leste says it will not be requesting military assistance from Australia because there has been no sign of the violence which occurred earlier in the week.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister, John Howard, said the government would consider sending extra troops to its neighbour if there was a request for assistance, after trouble erupted in Dili after some military soldiers were sacked.
But Timor Leste's Ambassador to Australia, Hernani Da Silva, says Dili is now calm.
However, he says he would welcome more military assistance from the United Nations.
