The federal treasurer Peter Costello says next week's
budget will include major investment in roads and infrastructure.
Mr Costello says that the government is very conscious about maintaining the highways and major freight routes because good routes increase the capacity of the country.
He says it is a decision that will be welcomed by all because a better transport system means a better economy.
Mr Costello also says that the large families supplement of 10 dollars a fortnight will be extended to families with three children, and more incentives will be given to mother's wishing to return to the workforce.
Assistance will include helping to cover the costs of childcare if the mother has to undergo a training course before re-entering the workforce.
