The New South Wales government has joined the Northern Territory in agreeing to consider strengthening laws governing the purchase of explosives.

The Queensland government has written to the Prime Minister, John Howard, asking for the issue to be discussed at the next Council of Australian Governments meeting.

It follows the charging of a Brisbane teacher with terrorism-related offences after four bombs were found at his home.

A spokesman for the New South Wales Commerce Minister, John Della Bosca, says explosives laws were tightened in the state last year, but the government is willing to consider further measures.
