Kyle "Dusty" Foggo is being investigated by five agencies because of his friendship with defence contractor Brent Wilkes, an un-indicted co-conspirator in a bribery case that landed former US Representative Randy "Duke" Cunningham in prison.

Also investigating Mr Foggo are the Internal Revenue Service, the Defence Criminal Investigative Service and the US attorney's office in San Diego.

Federal agents with sealed search warrants showed up at Mr Foggo's office at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and at his nearby home in a quiet Virginia suburb. "I can confirm that search warrants were executed at the home and office of Dusty Foggo," said FBI spokeswoman, April Langwell.

Mr Foggo's lawyer was not immediately available for comment but Mr Foggo, formerly executive director the CIA, has denied any wrongdoing. The CIA declined today to say whether Mr Foggo, who announced his retirement on Monday, was still employed by the spy agency.

Investigation

The CIA said the searches were part of a joint investigation by the FBI and the CIA inspector-general's office.

The agency is reportedly investigating whether Mr Foggo helped steer any CIA contracts to Mr Wilkes."The agency is cooperating fully with the Department of Justice and the FBI as this is an ongoing investigation," the CIA said in a statement.

Mr Foggo has denied the accusations, in a CIA issued statement last week he said that the government contracts he handled were properly awarded and administered.

Before becoming executive director, Mr Foggo, who has spent 25 years with the agency, worked as a logistics expert in Germany, where he helped arrange overseas trips for congressmen.

The FBI is also investigating private poker parties organized by Mr Wilkes in Washington hotels that Mr Foggo allegedly attended.
