Federal Labor says new industrial relations laws are causing migrant workers to be exploited.
The comments come in the wake of details that one construction company is exclusively hiring overseas workers because they're more obedient and don't get as bored as Australians.
Hanssen Industries manager Dick Smith has told the ABC he pays guest workers a reduced wage, with the option of sending them home if he's unhappy with them.
Labor's immigration spokesman Tony Burke, says the case undermines the role of Australian workers, and leaves migrant workers powerless.
“Ultimately they have no rights for the very simple reason that if the employer chooses to fire them, they don't just lose their job, they lose their visa. They lose the capacity to pursue their rights.” Mr Burke said.
