Australia may be asked to take the nuclear waste of other countries which is generated using Australian uranium.

The exchange is being dubbed "nuclear fuel leasing".

‘I think everybody is just running ahead of themselves on this issue. There has been some talk about certain proposals, I will be interested to learn a little more about it. Mr Howard said.

‘I have an interest in it, Australia has an interest in it. We are not concerned about anything, we haven't been asked to do anything.’

Mr Howard will also discuss the issue with the US energy secretary.
