The parliamentary secretary for justiceJenny Mikakos, was speaking on the upcoming 87th anniversary of the Pontian genocide in present-day Turkey.
Ms Mikakos told Parliament that, unlike Germany, which has taken responsibility for its gencoide of Jews, Turkey has never apologised to its victims.
She has angered the Council of Turkish Associations of Victoria and three Labor M-Ps - two of Turkish backgrounds - and a Holocaust survivor's son.
A spokesman for the Premier, Steve Bracks, has confirmed he has spoken to Ms Mikakos, who is of Greek heritage, about her comments.
But he would not say if Mr Bracks has asked her to apologise.
