The Queensland Nationals and Liberals are struggling to convince their federal counterparts of the merits of a plan to merge the two parties in the state.
Mr Springborg is due to meet his federal party leader, Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile, in Canberra on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister, John Howard, says the only solution he will accept for the merger is if the Queensland Nationals become Liberals.
But Mr Springborg says there are a number of ways that the merger can be achieved without threatening the stability of the federal Coalition.
