Aboriginal people living in remote communities will be offered low-interest government loans, and 99-year leases on property they inherit as part of planned changes to the Land Rights Act.

The government expects more than 450 families to be eligible for the scheme.

The plan comes nearly a year after changes to land rights in the Northern Territory which also opened up long-term leasing of Aboriginal land.
