A United Nations report into HIV-AIDS has found the number of infections is in Australia has increased significantly over recent years.

The report has found that the number of new cases diagnosed is now approaching the levels it reached in the mid 1990s.

As estimated 16-thousand Australians were living with HIV in 2005.

The U-N report says the increase could reflect the revival of unsafe sexual practices.
