Former Telstra chief and nuclear scientist, Ziggy Switkowski, was selected by the Prime Minister, John Howard, to head the inquiry into uranium mining, enrichment and nuclear power.

The Labor Party and Green groups say Mr Switkowski has a potential conflict of interest because he sits on the board of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, which supports the expansion of the nuclear industry.

Mr Switkowski has told Sky News there's no nonflict of interest, but he's resigned from the board of ANSTO anyway.

“I think this issue of conflict or bias, while it's understandable, I think greatly overstates the situation, my membership of the ANSTO board. So there really, practically, is no conflict. But we'll take care of the perceptions by my moving away from the board now,” Mr Switkowski said.
