Survivors of the 1996 disaster, which killed 18 soldiers and aircrew, will join families and colleagues in remembering those who died.
The largest remembrance ceremony will be held in Perth, where 15 of those killed were based.
Neil James, from the Australian Defence Association, says it is the second the worst peace-time tragedy in Australian military history.
“The sinking of the Voyager in 1964 was much worse of course. And it was about twice the size, in terms of casualties, to the crash on Nias for instance, if you want to put it in perspective. It was quite a shocking tragedy. And now we have the tenth anniversary. I mean, to many people it doesn't seem ten years ago,” Mr James said.
