Nearly 500 bearskin caps have been bought for soldiers in the Guards Regiments at a cost of around A$1,600 each.

The hats are used on ceremonial duties in and around the Queen’s official Buckingham Palace residence in central London.

The bearskins, which have been worn by the sovereign's Foot Guards for more than 200 years are provided by licensed fur traders under the jurisdiction of the Canadian authorities.
