A spokesman for the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Craig Pierce, says a small pipe in a radioactive hot cell ruptured last Thursday, halting production of an isotope used in medical procedures.

Mr Pierce says one worker was in the area of the accident, but tests show he did not pick up any radiation.

An investigation into the cause of the rupture is due to report in a couple of weeks.
