The antics of two pseudo-scientists in their backyard making soda fountains from candy and Coke are a big hit on the net.

And its spawned a multitude of copycat videos of giddy people trying the experiment in backyards and bathtubs.

Hundreds of videos have sprung on the Internet of people slipping four or five Mentos into two-litre diet soda bottles and high-fiving each other as they watch the fountain jet fly about two meters high.

The amateur films can be seen on popular websites such as youtube.com and Google.

Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz, took the stunt a step further when they tried to duplicate a huge fountain in a Las Vegas casino by using 523 Mentos and 101 coke bottles.
