Liberal Senator, Judith Troeth, says there has been no progress made so far in resolving backbench concerns about the government's asylum seekers' legislation.

The government is in a deadlock over the proposed changes to migration policy which could see all illegal boat arrivals processed in offshore detention centres.

Senator Troeth says the new laws are still under discussion.

However, a government-dominated parliamentary committee has recommended the bill be rejected and about 10 coalition M-Ps and senators say they oppose it.

The Immigration Minister, Amanda Vanstone, says they will keep talking to try and reach an agreement.

Queensland National Senator, Barnaby Joyce, says he thinks a compromise can still be achieved.
