The board of inquiry examining Private Kovco's death has heard details of the moments leading up to his death from a single gun shot to the head last April.
Private Kovco's roommate, known only as Soldier 17, told the inquiry in Sydney, the Victorian soldier had been laughing about a pop song they were listening to shortly before the gun went off.
Soldier 17 says he did not see Private Kovco take the pistol from its holster and he is unaware of how the gun discharged.
