The 47-year-old faced trial in the New South Wales Supreme Court on charges relating to his dealings with HIH’s former general manager of finance, Bill Howard.

Cooper allegedly paid Mr Howard 124-thousand dollars in bribes over a three-month period, while Mr Howard negotiated millions of dollars in payments to Cooper’s companies.

A judge convicted Cooper last October of six bribery charges, and seven of forging or tampering with documents for financial gain.
