The man, Robert Taylor, is accused of criminal damage with intent to endanger life following the incident in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, 70 kilometres east of London.

Essex Police said he is also charged with three counts of criminal damage in relation to three cars including a police car, affray and assault of a police officer.

The homeowner, Janice Gledhill, said she saw cars being demolished.

"I thought surely he's not going to come for the house, but then I saw him come for the house and I was upstairs at the time and I ran down the stairs, heard the crash on the front of the house there, and the police lady just shouted through the door 'get out of the house fast'," she said.

Mrs Gledhill said she recognised the suspect as someone who owed rent from the couple's trailer park.

Taylor is in custody and is due to appear before magistrates this week.
