Around 100 others were injured in the attack which came at the busiest time of the day in the densely-populated Sadr City neighbourhood.

It was the worst attack in the Iraqi capital for weeks and comes as the new government has been battling to improve security.

Last week Prime Minister Nouri Maliki unveiled a national reconciliation plan in a bid to move the country away from violence.
