Micky, a moody macaw with a vicious temper was taken from a pet store in Somerset and hasn’t been seen since.

The blue and gold parrot bit a chunk out of the burglar, drawing enough blood for the police to get a DNA sample.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with burglary and animal cruelty offences and has appeared in court.

Angus Hart, 45, who owned Micky for 10 years, said he was not surprised that Micky lashed out.

"He's a miserable old git to be honest with you," Mr Hart said. "He doesn't talk much but he can be quite cute and cuddly when he wants to be.”
