The study by the Australian National University cites the New South Wales town of Broken Hill as leading the trend, with a fast rising Indigenous population and a declining non-Indigenous population.

The report says the trend is particularly prevalent in South Australia and Western Australia, as well as New South Wales.

And it concludes that apart from Sydney, every capital city has more Indigenous people settling rather than leaving.
