The aid organisation's Director of Public Policy in Australia, James Ensor, says he's concerned owners could be coerced into signing 99-year leases in return for the provision of services like education.
“In some instances the government might look to tie the promise of basic services, services that the rest of us take for granted, to the issuing of these 99 year leases, which could pressure traditional owners to hand over their land directly or indirectly.”
