The Prime Minister has undone an agreement to limit members’ superannuation, delivering a six percent super boost for 37 new federal MPs.
Contributions for MPs elected in 2004 will be increased to 15 per cent, but those previously elected stay at over 60 per cent.
First term Senator Barnaby Joyce has told ABC radio that there are two different standards.
“It's always rather perplexing that at the last election both the government and the opposition, on the inspiration of Mark Latham, put their hands on their heart and said we're going to reduce politicians' entitlements for everyone who followed after them. So currently in parliament we have two people on two different pay rates. One gets large life insurance payouts on about 60 per cent super, we're currently on nine percent super,” Senator Joyce said.
