Mr Springborg says he will not to recontest his party leadership following Labor's landslide victory in last Saturday's state election.
His deputy, Jeff Seeney has announced he will run for the leadership at a party room meeting next Monday.
Mr Springborg, 38, became a politician at just 21 and says he will remain in state parliament.
“It is time, no doubt, for a new direction and already we've heard there may be other people contesting the position of the leader of the Nationals in Queensland. I wish my colleagues all the very, very best, whoever decides to throw their hat in the ring.”
