They show how Cruise's paternal great-great grandfather, Dylan
Henry Mapother, emigrated from Flint in north Wales to Louisville, Kentucky in 1850.

Berry's maternal grandmother sailed across the Atlantic aged five months with her mother and five siblings in 1912 from Liverpool, north-west England, before settling in Philadelphia.

The information comes from website ancestry.co.uk, which is putting online details of 100 million people who sailed from Britain to the United States between 1820 and 1960.

The lists also reveal that US first lady Laura Bush's great-great grandparents sailed from London to New York in 1865, while tycoon Donald Trump's mother, Mary MacLeod, crossed the ocean from Scotland in 1935.

Passenger records from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland can be searched by name to reveal date, departure port and destination via the website.

Access to the records is free until November 30.
