Senator Joseph Biden was today nominated by popular acclaim at the Democratic convention in Denver, Colorado to serve as Barack Obama's vice presidential running mate.

"The ayes have it," the convention's chair, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said to huge cheers after no delegates spoke out against the veteran Delaware senator's nomination.

Biden soon took to the stage to deliver his acceptance address.

He said the challenges America faces require "more than a good soldier" in the White House.

And he called Obama a wise leader who can deliver the change the nation needs.
