With a green-and-gold logo, a dedicated Australian handle and meetings with top local businesses, could Twitter be setting its sights on a permanent home down-under?

Twitter executives are expected to fly into the country this week for a spate of meetings with media companies, sports organisations and local personalities, kicking off with a #TwitterBrekky in Melbourne tomorrow.

The company's head of international development Mike Brown will be heading up the breakfast, which is targeted at businesses in the sports and entertainment industries.

The social media site is keeping a tight lid on the visit, as rumours fly it plans to open a local office in Australia.

"At the request of Twitter press will not be invited to the event," the event registration notes.

It has already opened up offices in South Korea and Japan, targeting the 44 per cent of all online users that reside in Asia.

Twitter's Australian visit comes after the untrumpeted verification of dozens of local accounts in recent months.

Came, saw, got the t-shirt: An image posted by @TwitterAU to their official tweet feed displays the site's new localised logo.
