Sarmin Chan is 61. She came to Australia in 2006. She left an abusive relationship and now lives at a women's refuge with one other lady. She has no family here and her only community interaction is with those she's met through an aged-care Khmer group. Sarim survived the Pol Pot era in Cambodia but her two children didn't. She says she thinks about them everyday.
