Which party is using social media the best in this election?
Social media is taking off in Australia (Getty Images)
Tony Abbott, Julia Gillard and Bob Brown all have Twitter and Facebook accounts, but who is using social media to their advantage?

Best use of new media ?
The general view I'm reading is both major parties are clunky in their use of new media. It's early days for the backroom boys talking to the leaders of both parties about new media. The occasional brilliance of previous television campaign adverts is not yet a factor. The success of Rudds campaign was more timing than creative use of the internet. He was a new face with little baggage.
Both major parties are social media #FAIL
They have both been pathetic in the use of social media. Kate Ellis is blocking constituents who criticise Labor policies on Twitter, Abbot (and Gillard) use social media only to broadcast their messages and don't listen or interact. Minister Conroy (as reported in Crikey) hates Twitter because it's all about what people had for breakfast. Only the Greens are making some attempt to engage online. The major parties have shown they have complete contempt for internet users (90% of Australians)
Kevin Rudd was Tweet King
No one tops Kevin Rudd in terms of proactive and quite personal tweeting. Julia Gillard has a long way to go to catch up to K-Rudds tweet-power, especially, as her tweets are done by staffers who are seriously lacking creativity: 'The PM speaking on A Stronger and Fairer Economy at the #NPC, You can stream it here http://bit.ly/watchABCnow' Um no thanks and can I have the last 10 seconds of my life back! Boring!
Neither.
The Australian Sex Party has done the best job. They respond to every question, have a great sense of humour, great policies, and are gaining interest/followers rapidly. To hell with the major parties: If you care not for "working families", are opposed to the internet filter, want to see religious organisations lose their tax free status, and believe in a mature/open approach to sex, health, and education - then #vote1sex!
