Should there be a ban on loud 'grunting' in tennis?

The Women's Tennis Association is looking into a ban on players making loud noises when they hit the ball. Do you think this is fair? And should men be subject to the same ban?

Grunting / screaming / moaning should be banned. Players need complete silence so they can concentrate on the game and they need to listen to calls by the lines people and referee. There is no reason for a player to be making those noises - it is done on purpose to annoy the other player.

It is disgusting behaviour and I no longer watch tennis as result. IT is all driven by money.

Turn the Telly Down!

It's easy to fix...turn the volume down on your TV set! Telecasters could easily remove some of the "noise" and if they realise many people turn the volume down or change channels they may be forced to do this or risk loosing advertising $$.

I play chess the old way , nice and easy and quiet . So in Poker the old way likes in the West . Every time one grunds it is an out ball , problem fixed , so who cares if the opponent can hear the twang of the rag . Now lets play ping bong with a different rubber on each side , and I hit the ball with the edge , ups sorry in the old time , but 21 times ? They call you a ????? . I do not listen to Golf on the Radio .

My family and I watch tennis on the box to be entertained, and marvel at the athleticism of the players,HOWEVER, this continuous grunting/shreiking/screaming, is seeing us more and more change the station, when the women are playing. we used to watch it live whenever we could, however we dont even consider going to the venues anymore, cannot stand the noise. The sooner they put a ban on this intrusion, the better for all of us.

Seems to me that grunting/shrieking would take a certain amount of energy. Wouldn't it be better to apply all available energy to hitting the ball?

Vulgar

Some players, particularly some women make such –well unpleasant noises that one wonders why would any body actually pay money to see them play on court. The way to eradicate this vulgar sportsmanship is to have empty seats when grunting players come on court. It is best to watch the game on TV with Mute on.

It is completely unnecessary, except fot thos3e who think it might give them better media cverage. It should simply be banned! Why, among all the players over theyears is it only emerging now!!

Above a certain noise level, definitely.

I understand that grunting might be a natural part of some players' game. But the excessively loud and long grunts give an unfair advantage; it distracts the other player, and masks the sound of the ball off the racquet. When this is the case, it needs to be penalized as unsportsmanlike. They are able to cut it off when it suits them; rarely ever on the practice courts. Highly suspicious! It seems to be part of the "code" on tour that no-one complains; I think the officials should step in.
