Optus has won a landmark ruling allowing mobile phone users the ability to record live TV and watch it just a few minutes later, something the AFL, NRL and Telstra were all unhappy about as, they say, their copyright can be infringed.

The judge compared the service to using a home VCR. But for the football codes, a promising new revenue stream - mobile broadcasting rights - could be snuffed out before its potential is realised. What do you think? Is it good that more people will be able to access live sports (at least those which are being shown on TV), or does it put the funding of sports at risk?

I agree with the judge. These monopolies should not have the right to snuff out freedom of information/choice. It was ruled in the US & Singapore that what the NRL/AFL/ Telstra want was not fair and it is just too bad if technology has passed these dinosaur institutions by. It is also too bad if these 'sportspeople' want to earn mega bucks, they can always leave

Once I said to me Boss , ring back this customer he is waiting for an answer , phone him , no I write him a letter , it is cheaper too and on paper so no complain . But to that story , is actually enough time in the day to watch all programs on TV , Mobile , play games , who is actually working to earn that much or have to much time on their hands . Stupidity at its best .

It can also be of poor quality and not worth a cent. Because all Optus GSM network is based on second grade hardware and unstable software.

How Telstra Operates behind our back ( part 1)

Who lets Optus operates and how , It is a well planned game by Telstra, Owning 90% of Telephone Network in Australia .It keeps its retail cost at a very high level, Ex Local calls @16-20cents, then it sells these calls @ 4-8 cents to Optus, Primus AAPT etc.It keeps premium services to itself. These resellers then sell local calls @12cents in competition with Telstra. Still Telstra makes Billions $ profit year after year.Telstra will kill Optus if your phone bill is$5000 or more ( @7cents)

At least one writes a full Name behind !

Well, expressed Clavdivs , very enlightening one must say , for a start up of whatever ! At Anwar , you believe Telstra is better , I can give you a 3 Year conversation on paper if you like , what you talking about no natives online or on the phone-line , they don't even know where they have Offices here in Australia where letters get send from . I mean as some say you get what you pay for , so what is this story about ?

The problem here is that the user is paying a third party (Optus) for a service which includes the copying of copyrighted material. This is not the same as the user copying the material himself, because it includes a for-profit transaction. The only party allowed lawfully to profit by copying the material is the copyright owner.
