Does Sydney need a second airport?
(AAP)
The federal government says Sydney needs a second airport, but the NSW government insists there should be no new airport in the Sydney Basin.
Both are opposed to calls to increase traffic at the existing airport, while the NSW Premier says a new fast rail link between Sydney and Canberra Airport should take travellers to a larger airport there.

a second airport
To whom it may concern in regard to a second airport and employment of a futuristic approach the oil refinery at Kurnell could be reallocated to vacant lands within the steel works in both Wollongong and Newcastle Kurnell should be the second choice for a runway the arrival and departure could be over the Ocean a better choice for a Airport passengers could be transported by sea to the quay Sydney harbour less noise pollution
Instead off talking for years, just get on with it .
Personally I think Richmond air base should be expanded into a second international airport for Sydney. It already has a passenger rail link which could easily be upgraded and the terrain towards the west is reasonably level. The current Mascot airport is an expensive privately owned rip off joke.Trent
2nd Airport
Yes but whenever you build an airport, people will always move in take over the surrounding land and then complain about the noise. I remember Stansted when it was fields, but look at it now! Moorabbin, Jandakot, Parafield, not long ago these were on the outskirts of Oz cities. Of course, Gov eventually sell them and the airport operators push the prices up so far it is hard for companies to make a buck and so have to move. But dont worry, they put in shops and hotels as we like to spend!
Mr.
This issue has been discussed since the late 1940s, long before the 1980s. The problem is not only the pollution, not only the noise, not only the gutlessness of successive Governments: the present inadequate airport serves the major players & owners, because they control the lucrative Eastern Seaboard traffic. Resident groups will be manipulated until there will be a) an accident, which is overdue; or b) a government is elected to do something. The latter is unlikely.

Our suggestion is to build runways over the sea in Botany Bay so that noise will not affect residential areas. This is a longer term solution and will of course cost more in the short term. Badgery's Creek was proposed as a site for a second Sydney airport in the west in the ninetees. My wife and I were founding members of Holroyd Action Against Aircraft Noise (HAAAN). We met politicians in the 3 levels and residents from other parts of Sydney. Government corruption was exposed.
