Australian swimmers Nick D'Arcy and Kenrick Monk have apologised for posting a photo of themselves posing with guns in a US shop on Facebook.

Do you think they should be punished, or were their actions inoffensive?

The reasons WHY this photo is wrong.

Miles - from Brisbane, 11 months ago

I agree that in general, this isn't an offensive photo. What is offensive is that these boy's, who are representing and honouring this country by participating in the Olympics have yet again shown they have utterly no understanding of their position as role models to our current generation of young people. They are simply a couple of egocentric thugs with a history of uncontrolled violence, this photo just adds to their "Bad Boy of Sport" image. They need a stern reality check on their behaviour

what else will they winge about

These are two guys that walked into a gun shop and did what guys do, they had a photo of themselves with some guns. What is the big deal, that is what I'd do and what I would think my boys would do in the same situation. You have to be kidding if you think this photo makes them "bad guys" or it sends out the wrong message. If 2 girls went into a kitchen shop and had a photo with a knife and a blender what message would you think then? Grow up ppl it was 2 guys and some guns, BIG DEAL!!!!

response to Rosemary

Nick D'arcy and Kenrick Monk Rosemary - from Quirindi, 2 days ago Very immature but possibly no more offensive than the shooting team parading in their speedos before a swim. What about fat women in spandex or swans smirk ? Join a gun club today and expand your horizons?

Stupid Idiots

colonial boy - from europe, 11 months ago

who are the stupid idiots that started this bullshit. really good. eh. two cool young aussie blokes having some fun in a gun shop next thing, they have the stupid idiots attacking their characters and causing them misery too bad they (or me) were not in port arthur with a gun when bryant went nuts ,he would not have killed so many. of all the questions sbs could ask, why ask this stupid question? ask what we think of the number of drowned illegal immigrants (asylum seekers) who´s fault is it?

Nick D'arcy and Monk picture with guns is atrbute to their Violent Nature

Ming hei wei - from sydney, 11 months ago

Thats why it is offensive and these idiots do not represent Australian Values in Olypic Level Sport. They have aggressive past and they insist on aggressive future. can someone make them their Ideal , that person should and must be serving ajail sentence for violent Crimes.

storm in a tea cup

this is a non story. every night on commercial TV we see numerous ( usually US ) shows which seem to glorify the use of firearms. havent heard much condemnation of these. while we're on the subject why is it acceptable to show men and boys posing with fish they have caught/killed ? would it be OK to show photos of them posing with dead roos or wallabies ? whats the difference ?

cultural role models

phw - from canberra, 11 months ago

not individuals but the culture of violence is offensive. in a nation where school schootings are about a "normal" occurrence their posturing represents model behavior. having just had my lawn ruined by a "grass-out", the equivalent to a burn-out, I can see this culture rapidly heading home - curtesy of the federal government who appears to be smitten by anything U.S.

Just boys being boys... why all the anger?

jason wander - from darwin, 11 months ago

I don't understand the big deal of this. These are young men, fascinated by boys-toys like every other young man in the world. Why do they even have to apologize and defend themselves?

So silly

Jamie Anderson - from Berri, NSW, 11 months ago

What a ridiculous hysteria all this has been over absolutely nothing! There's no reason these guys should have been punished it's not like they were shooting. They just took photos! We may as well punish the 14 year old girls who post provocative photos on their Facebook pages after all, they're promoting kiddie porn! Sure these are elite athletes in the public eye but they're also young guys having fun. Let them be. Too many people in this country are far too self-righteous.
