Apart from cutting 1,900 jobs, Fairfax Media is also set to introduce pay-wall models for their news websites. Content is freely available for a limited amount of times, beyond which users will be required to pay depending on how much content they access. What kind of news content would you pay for?

Paying for News

I think News in Australia should be free. Fairfax should not implement pay for news.

The online news content is really not available, what they should charge for are these comments as it won't come for free.. The board are loosing editors so if there is a takeover the new employer would really not have to sign any content agreement, they would employ who they favour, this has always been the way so watch it all unravel. The present problems are no result from online news.

Pay again? Not likely.

ABC and SBS are paid for by my taxes, and both of these services have me feeling short changed. The headline story on ABC News Radio recently was Mathew Newton being charged with assault in the US. Who gives a rats? Similar story at SBS. Any beat-up from the US is good enough for us. Remember the Amanda Knox soap opera anyone? American girl maybe kills English girl in Italy? Relevant to Australia how? Thankfully Al Jazeera fills the void, for free.

I don't need to pay for news and I wouldn't if I had to its mostly bad anyway, I would have a better frame of mind if I didn't watch any news. It turns out there is nothing I can do about things I see on the news anyway so whats the point in watching it or reading it?.

@ Andrew - nice one!

Because I'm assuming your comment was a joke. And I'm pretty sure it's bizarre/quirky (or plain insane) nature was the reason it was published - a bit of levity! Thank you.

No more propaganda or ads

There is so much more enlightening news on independent media sites, such as the liens China has placed on the gold the US won't return as per agreement, the way the US Federal Reserve was set up as a private bank etc etc, that the US Govt have had a treaty with an off-world race ie everything that is censored from our managed lives in the West. I would pay for that, not the material currently published to keep me dumbed down and in debt.

None.

Propaganda

Chris - from Melbourne, 11 months ago

Imagine that. Asking me to pay to brainwash myself with biased, fear laden, lies.

I'm glad you consider Mr Rudd's $1000 handout as a bribe cause your friend John Howard was the first to implement it. John Howard actually used it twice in the same year (towards the end of his term) giving the false impression that the third handout would be due right after the election. Besides relationship with Indonesia reaching new laws, getting into 2 wars, PNG disputing oil mine permits he was a freak of nature. The country was in surplus cause he built absolutely nothing. Airport? New Rd?
