Should there be tighter controls on the use of Tasers or should police have weapons at all?
Recent deaths in arrests involving Tasers has sparked debate about the standard operating procedures police are trained to deploy the "non-lethal" weapons.
Two state coroners handed down their findings on two Taser-related deaths at the hands of police, prompting a review of NSW police use of the "non-lethal" weapons.
The NSW coroner said that police were reckless in the arrest in which Brazilian student Roberto Curti died.
Should there be tighter controls on police use of Tasers - should police have weapons at all? Have your say.

NSW Police a Coward Lazy organisation , cheats Australian Taxpayers
Will never do what it suppose to do , it will always find ways discourage and harass the Victim, so it has to keep sitting on his BUM and draw salaries. As thsi fact has been proven again and again , The Crims are not afraid of these useless lazy entity. That is the main reason why Crims in Australia have chosen Gun for all their acts.
Thugs
Some Australian police are thugs in uniform. They haven't the mentality to have ANY weapon that may endanger the public. How some get into the police force is a mistery,In Qld some are out of control, get arrested for no good reason, and find out.No matter what gender or how old you are there is a 50-50 chance you will get beaten up.Watch some sickening vedio's of police.attacking the aged, women, and other members of the public.
Ms
If police were skilled in the martial arts there would be no need for dangerous weaponry such as tasers, or guns, even batons. The use of tasers suggest lack of self discipline, the inability to negotiate and lack of emotional maturity and control. Push hands Tai Chi teaches concentration, self control and use of the body's natural energies - far more powerful than any weapon. But to achieve what the 93 year old on YouTube demonstrates takes self discipline, patience & maturity.
terms of engagement
Police need to have a terms of engagement policy when dealing with armed civilians the current policy the right to kill you without consequence is very wrong . Police have gone from peace officers to law enforcement like the Americans Australia has very strict gun laws. Working in the environment of laws breached by wrong doers the senior officer in attendance should be held accountable for what the subordinates do or committ, all being armed is not safe each person reacts differently.
Restrictions for Police Weapon Use.
Police should be armed for any situation; however some individuals in the police force are not able to respond appropriately to a given situation. Tighter controls on the weapon usage such as ANYTIME A WEAPON IS REMOVED FROM THE HOLSTER the situation encountered must be reported in a comprehensive report and an independent committee (not currently serving police) should investigate the reasons why the drawing of a weapon was required (especially a hand gun) after the event fired or not.
EX Cop
Having been in some really deadly and violent situations myself, tasers are the best defense a cop has. It is a major deterrent and if the offender is not deterred then the use is justified. It is easy for people that have not been in violent situations to critise the police for being brutal. Society itself is becoming more violent and respect, well there isn't much left. Give the cops what they need. If you are doing no wrong then chances are they won't be tasering you will they?
