SMASH! have announced Chinese cosplay couple Baozi & Hana as this year’s first international guests.

Baozi & Hana are famous for androgynous, gender-bending and queer couple cosplay. Since debuting in 2011, they have established a huge international audience, with over 232,000 followers on Facebook and 148,000 on Instagram.

They’re well known for cosplay that appeals to fangirls, fujoshis and our love for pretty anime boys. Some of their most popular designs include Free’s Makoto and Haru, Inuyasha and Kikyou (with Baozi convincingly crossplaying her) and Ao no Exorcist’s Okumura brothers, Rin and Yukio.

“Baozi and Hana are some of the world’s best cosplayers in the cosplay community,” SMASH! President Andrew Qiu said in a statement. “This is a great chance for fans to meet them in person and learn valuable cosplay skills.”

The SMASH! team are anticipating hundreds of fans at Baozi and Hana’s Q&A sessions, signings and cosplay tutorials.

SMASH! is Sydney’s largest non-profit anime and manga convention bringing together cosplayers, artists and casual fans alike. The event runs between August 19-20 at Rosehill Gardens. Last year, the convention celebrated its ten year anniversary, having established a reputation of bringing high profile voice actors, directors and cosplayers to Australia.

More guests will be announced over the coming months. You can find out more about the convention on their website.
